Vegas’s Mandalay Bay to Undergo $100 Million Renovation

Las Vegas is one of the world’s top convention destinations, and the city’s Mandalay Bay resort is the latest venue to announce a major overhaul. The 2.1 million square-foot Mandalay Bay Convention Center, which hosted IMEX America last week, will be undergoing a $100 million renovation.

The renovation will include technology upgrades — including new recently installed Cat6A Ethernet cabling — as well as digital signage, and a new design reflecting the venue’s tropical ambiance, in line with the evolving needs and demands of the meetings and events market.

Planners can also look forward to new dynamic digital walls, which will allow for engaging brand placements, sponsorship opportunities, and targeted event messaging. They will also be able to make use of new mobile flexible display units for signage throughout the venue, making for a convenient and more sustainable alternative to traditional printed signs. Meeting rooms will also be outfitted with RFID locks, and over 200 motion detection cameras will be placed throughout the venue for added security.

Mandalay Bay’s new look will be designed by MGM Resorts International Design Group in collaboration with Vegas-based Dezmotif Studios, and will include brighter lighting and more seating nooks, as well as artwork by Thandiwe Muriu and Sarah Anne Johnson as part of MGM Resorts’ commitment to provide a platform for diverse and underrepresented artists.

“With Mandalay Bay home to many of the city’s top events and trade shows year after year, we recognized the need to upgrade the space to reflect modern-day needs and create a timeless design complemented by our premier service experience,” said Ernest Stovall, Vice President of Sales for Mandalay Bay. “We listened to feedback from meeting planners over recent years and are confident this refreshed and upgraded space will exceed their needs and expectations in every way.”

The upgrades will be implemented in phases to allow the convention center to remain open throughout, with the full project expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
