Warner Music Group, Splinterlands Partner To Develop Blockchain Games With Artists

Warner Music Group (WMG) is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to seeking out collaborations with Web3 companies and finding new ways to enable its artists to engage with fans online. Since the beginning of the year, WMG has announced partnerships with NFT platforms Blockparty and OneOf, as well as virtual world The Sandbox.

Blockchain gaming developer Splinterlands, the latest Web3 company to partner with WMG, founded in 2018 and operates the most popular blockchain game decentralized app in the world, also called Splinterlands. This new partnership will allow certain WMG artists to develop play-to-earn blockchain games for their fans in the latest crossover between music and gaming.

“I don’t think we can underestimate how massive the opportunity around P2E gaming is,” said WMG Chief Digital Officer & EVP, Business Development Oana Ruxandra in a statement. “Our partnership with Splinterlands pulls focus to our artists and their music as we all work together to develop and maintain tokenized games. As we build, we will be unlocking new revenue streams for our artists while further solidifying fans’ participation in value created.”

The games developed via the collaboration between WMG and Splinterlands will be built for mobile and will aim to build a wider community of fans. The play-to-earn model, made possible thanks to blockchain technology, allows players to earn rewards through gameplay, such as NFTs, that they can trade and sell in-game and also have real world value.

Splinterlands Co-Founder and CEO Jesse “Aggroed” Reich added: “Warner Music Group is a leader in the music industry. They are innovating the music industry to meet the standards set by Web 3.0 community members. We're thrilled to be working with them and I look forward to new collaborations at the intersection of gaming, music, crypto, NFTs, defi, and blockchain.”
