Manchester City Launches Blue Moon Roblox Experience

Roblox has been a bit quieter over the past few months in terms of big name artists dropping onto the platform for virtual experiences, likely due partly to the fact that prior Global Head of Music Jonathan Vlassopulos recently left his role and that artists are busy with the return of in-person events.

However, the platform is still seeing a lot of interest from sports teams and brands who are looking to engage with fans in the metaverse, with Spotify recently launching Spotify Island, and the UK’s Manchester City Football Club debuting a new Roblox experience.

With this experience, called Blue Moon, Manchester City becomes the first Premier League club to launch an experience on the platform and is quickly making a name for itself as a metaverse pioneer in the soccer world — the team also announced earlier this year that it is working with Sony to create a digital twin of its home Etihad Stadium for fans to explore in the metaverse.

The Roblox Blue Moon experience follows the story of the team’s mascots, Moonchester and Moonbeam, and offers various games and activities for fans to participate in, as well as a virtual Man City store. Fans can play Moonball matches, complete quests to earn rewards, compete in the Goal Kick Simulator to win limited edition items for the avatars, and connect with other fans virtually.

“Manchester City continues to embrace the latest technologies to enhance experiences for our fans across the globe — both physically and in the digital world, exploring new and exciting ways to engage and entertain our fanbase,” said Nuria Tarre, Chief Marketing and Fan Experience Officer at CFG (City Football Group).

“Another first for the club, this collaboration aims to inspire the next generation of fans and we look forward to delivering this innovative new experience on Roblox and bring the Premier League Trophy into the metaverse.”

The team also notes that more upgrades, updates, and events will be coming in the next few months.
